As the engine and powertrain changed during manufacturing, the Chevy Monte Carlo employed a range of gearboxes. In addition to 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmissions like the Turbo-Hydramatic TH350, TH400, and subsequently the 700R4, early vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s had 3-speed or 4-speed manual transmissions in performance trims.
